Greetings to all of you in this new year. i ahave decided to reflect o what is happening around us. This time last year we were experiencing the Arab spring with revolutions in the northern African Nations.Later on in the year. i wonder what is going to be different this year. Definitly the elections in the United States and kenya.
For Barrack Obama things are going to be different this time. Most middle class Americans are sceptical of his efforts to improve their living conditions. He has not lived up to many of his promises because of power oppositon forces with the congress . He has wandered through many of the issues with the prowess of a law professor People do believe in his rhetoric but not many trust in his deeds. For example his failure to close down Guantanmo shows a lack of finding solutions with congress. Secondly the American economy has continues to tank (not his fault ) despite his half hearted efforts to lift it from the abyss.
one thng you will notice is that he has gathered a lot of grey hair in the last year. Well not only are the stressess of the High office getting to him but also he has now clocked 50 years . He will scrape through for a second term but do not expect any fast miracles on the economic front for at least 2-3 years.
Being more philosophical I Know a couple of people who as they approach 50 are going through midlife transitions. I would not call it a crisis just the world keeps changin every single day. A lot of teh idols and icons of the last century are not there anymore. people who you cherished and made your life memorable in different fields of business, sports, show business.
i know somebody who is changing his career after working for a quarter of a century in one profession. It is complicated for this person since he goes to class with younger collegues who have a different work, study and behavioral ethic. They come to class with cell phones, i-pods which are so distracting . One minute these youngsters are talking to you and the next they are texting other people. It is like the world of mobile telphony has taken contol of people's lives ieven in the most sacred places the classroom.
At times he can not communicate with these "students" especially when it comes to sharing notes discussions about class work.
What he tells me is that there is not much he can do about it. He just trudges through studing the old way by revising notes at home and reading and revising on his own.
This leads me to the next aspect of adapting to the challenges of mordren age. How do you keep up with facebook and twitter, timewasting People who live in a world of gossip and grapevine Sombody even puts up pictures of themselves in order to gain publicity and fame for 5 minutes I foung it rather gross when somebody put upa photograph of herself 6 months pregnant Incidentally she was a mistress to a wellknown sports personality and her first fiance died in 9/11
i think that was rather gross but i guess you just have to accept it Human beings in search of glory, fame and fortune an any cost
